For a child, honoring one's parent includes obedience. "Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right" (Eph 6:1) But when you reach adulthood, your parents no longer control your life. They are no longer responsible for your actions and so they no longer have authority over your life.
Honoring your parents does not mean supporting them in their sins or bringing their sins into your life. Be polite when you must interact with them. Check once in a while to see that they are all right. But when they become abusive or try to drag you down to their level, just politely tell them "no I won't go there" or hang up or leave.
Ungodly parents are the greatest servants of the devil in all the world, and the bloodiest enemies to their children's souls! More souls are damned by ungodly parents, than by all other instruments!
As bad as they are, they did manage to raise a child who wants to serve God. For their care of you when you were young, you can be thankful even while recognizing that their approach to parenting was often flawed. Don't stoop to scorn (Prov 30:11) or mockery (Prov. 30:17) of your parents.
NO MATTER HOW BAD YOUR CHILDHOOD WAS, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LET IT IMPACT YOUR LIFE.

Stepping Out in Faith
Lord, help me to be a woman who speaks wisely, graciously, and clearly and never foolishly, rudely, or insensitively. Give me words that speak of the hope that is within me so I can explain my faith in a persuasive and compelling way. May the words I speak bring others into a fuller knowledge of You.
We have no idea what great things God wants to do through us if we will just step out in faith when He asks us to. That's why He lets us go through some difficult times. Times when we feel weak and vulnerable. He allows certain things to happen so that we will turn to Him and give Him our full attention. It's in those times, when we are forced to pray in greater faith, that our faith grows stronger. Even when your faith seems small, you can still speak in faith to the mountains in your life and tell them to move, and God will do the impossible. You can pray for the crippled parts of your life to be healed and God will restore them. You can ask God to increase your faith and give you boldness to act on it, and He will do it. But without faith it is impossible to please Him,for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6
Lord, increase my faith. Teach me how to "walk by faith, not by sight". Give me strength to stand strong on Your promises and believe Your every word.
